Anna Majavu is a journalist based in the Eastern Cape and a part-time journalism lecturer at Rhodes University. She formerly worked as a journalist at Sowetan, New Frame, and Grocott’s Mail newspapers, and as an editor at the Pacific Media Centre. She is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Auckland in Aotearoa/New Zealand, investigating mainstream media representations of the African diasporic community between 2004 and 2021.

She has worked as an advocacy and campaigns activist and media trainer for organisations including the Casual Workers’ Advice Office, the Sex Workers Education and Advocacy Taskforce, the Western Cape Anti-Eviction Campaign, and South Durban Community Environmental Alliance. She has also worked for several years as a trade union organiser and union spokesperson, and volunteers with social movements.
